Finding "The One"

Picking the right foundation is almost exactly like picking a husband. We must ask ourselves questions like; Will it last? Will it fulfill all my needs and be forgiving of my scars and imperfections? If this touches my skin… will I get a rash? Can this be full coverage but not suffocate me?

Before we pick either, a foundation (or a husband), we must know ourselves. What kind of skin tone do you have? Oily, Combination, dry, easily irritated? Do you need full coverage, or can you get away with sheer?

If you don’t know the answers to these questions, the makeup world will swallow you and your wallet whole. So many times, I have made the mistake of watching a YouTube video and rushing out to buy whatever foundation the guru was raving about, spending up to 80.00 only to be disappointed. I didn’t know my skin type. Why can’t I just use the old faithful Covergirl Clean (you know the one, triangular shaped with a white lid) and the powder compact like I did in high school? It wasn’t until the 20th time of being so frustrated that I started to listen to my skin. I don’t have 17-24-year-old skin anymore. I need to cater to my needs now… Instead of going and buying luxury makeup I started researching drug store brands I knew I liked. Thankfully because of the popularity of makeup, drug store brands have upped their game to compete with high dollar brands.

Prepping your skin before makeup application is a MUST. Having a clean, toned, moisturized, and primed face are all so important for a flawless foundation application. There are plenty of drugstore finds for these products and like foundation, you must find what works for you. We will get into that in another blog.

What works for me? Married mom of FIVE in the dry hot desert? I have combination skin, some redness, and translucent under eyes (my veins are prominent under my eyes), I have random dry patches and a little discoloration on my cheek. I prefer a buildable coverage with SPF daily. My go to as of late, is Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir. It has a buildable coverage and is also hydrating for a natural glow but not so much you get shiny throughout the day. It also has SPF 20. I use this every day for work and when I go out for a night on the town.

Other products that I cannot live without are L'Oréal Infallible Pro-Matte 24 Hour Foundation (this is more for oily skin types) I like to mix it with the L'Oréal

Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation, since I have combination skin. I also use these two on clients. At a little over $12 each, I get the same quality of foundation (if not better in my opinion) than any MAC or Nars foundation. Investing in both for me, ensures that I am not too dry or too oily depending on how my skin wants to play me on a particular day.

· L’Oréal Infallible Pro-Glow

So, there you have it, my FeliciaMaekup approved Top 3 favorite drugstore foundations. You can get all three of these for less than $35 which is still cheaper than ONE of the luxury brands.

I know it’s intimidating looking for the right foundation. But like picking a husband, you have to cater to your needs and not rely on what the popular kids are raving about… You don’t want to end up giving your all (money) to a foundation (or man) only to hit it and quit it and be a notch in some luxury brands belt. (Shrugging shoulders emoji) Just sayin…

Until next time… Cio!
